100 YEAR OLD CORTLAND PLACE RESIDENT TO DINE WITH GOVERNOR CARCIERI
IN RECOGNITION OF MAY AS OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
Cortland Place resident, Assunta “Sue” Hesselbarth, will attend the 32nd annual Governor’s Centenarians Brunch from 8:30am to 10am on Wednesday, May 6th at Capitol Ridge in Providence, as part of Governor Carcieri’s recognition of May as Older Americans Month.
Last year the state located over 150 centenarians and 60 attended the celebration brunch. This year’s theme is “Living Today for a Better Tomorrow”, and reinforces the desire and hope for elders to live independently for as long as possible, by providing them and their families and caregivers with more options for care.
The staff of Cortland Place recently honored resident Assunta Hesselbarth, who is originally from Providence, with a 100th birthday party. Lea Doiron, RN, Director of Nursing Services at Cortland Place, said, “Mrs. Hesselbarth is family to us. Her good nature and positive outlook puts a smile on our faces every day. We always talk about Cortland as being a program where “family matters”, well, we couldn’t be more proud to have Sue here, as part of our family.”
Mrs. Hesselbarth, in response to being asked if she could believe she was 100 years old, said, “I guess it was in God’s plan. What I remember most in my life is teaching Sunday school. Oh, I loved the kids. They would always run to me and around me. They just loved me…and I loved them.” As she talked, she was smiling the whole time.
Cortland Place, in Greenville, RI, offers a continuum of care, including independent and assisted living, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, and skilled nursing care. For more information call 949-3880.
