Our History
In 1973 Norman Audino, Sr. purchased the former Levy mill building in Greenville, RI, and developed that into a beautiful industrial park that provided a home for over 30 companies. But the property was so magnificent, Mr. Audino always knew that it would be better suited for residential purposes. In 1988 Mr. Audino’s father died, leaving his mother who needed help with everyday living activities, and she went on to live in an assisted living community.
Mr. Audino would visit his mother often at her new residence, and whenever he talked with her and her new group of friends, they all commented on how nice it was to live in a place where they felt safe, comfortable, and cared for. These discussions gave Mr. Audino the impetus to build a multi-purpose assisted living facility of his own. He sold his other business holdings and, together with his son, Norman, father and son poured all of their time, energy, and money into renovating the one-time mill complex on Austin Avenue and opening a sparkling new facility, Cortland Place, in 1997.
Today, father and son oversee day-to-day operations of Cortland Place, developing strategic plans and setting long-term goals for their thriving community. This familial approach to management is one of the most unique aspects to Cortland Place, and it is how residents of all ages are welcomed - with open arms, open minds, and open hearts.
